The Gunners were formed in 1886 by munitions workers in Woolwich, London. Originally they were called Dial Square after the centre of the Royal Arsenal complex. The name has evolved over the years from Royal Arsenal, Woolwich Arsenal, The Arsenal and gradually became Arsenal as they are known today.
