Crewe Alexandra FC, The Railwaymen

By Matt Berry

The first railway station appeared at Crewe in 1837, but the town’s growth began with the Grand Junction Railway workshops in 1843. The first steam locomotive was built at Crewe the same year. The town’s long history with the railways gave rise to the nickname The Railwaymen.
