A history in colour. Newcastle United were founded in 1892, but their history goes back around 10 years earlier. They were formed of two teams. Newcastle West End 1881 and Newcastle East End (Stanley FC) 1882 merged to become one club by 1892. These clubs played in a plethora of colours and graphic shapes for around 10 years. The newly merged ‘United’ originally played in red shirts and white shorts and red socks, but only for a few seasons. By the 1894-95 season the first team started to wear their famous black and white shirt, but with navy blue shorts until 1920, when the all black and white kit was introduced. The familiar and classic strip that we see today.
